Sam Smith: “In the Lonely Hour”

With a dazzling display of sultry lyrics and soulful beats, Sam Smith is back once more. You might recall the track “Money on My Mind” that Smith released about six months ago. Although his tremendous range and soulful voice was on full display, the song underachieved with a rather annoying chorus. No worries, though: Smith’s debut album “In the Lonely Hour” is sure to impress even the staunchest critics. With a style mimicking that of Adele and John Legend, Smith sings of love and loss while simultaneously displaying his sublime piano-playing skills. Most impressively, however, is the fact that Smith achieves a cohesive sound with an incredible amount of variety. From the 80s-esque “Restart,” to the calming sound of “Good Thing,” and even the incredibly moving (and slightly depressing) “Stay with Me,” this album is one to be listened to in order, from start to finish. So, do yourself a favor, and take a listen. You will not be disappointed.

If you wish to listen to “In the Lonely Hour,” I am sorry to say that there is no free stream of the album… but if you love the album as much as myself, don’t hesitate to support Smith and buy it on iTunes. In the meantime, check out this website for a three-song preview:
